Window and Door Components.

Timber window and door components, made to order in the wood you choose. Every section on this page is machined to your sizes and to your profile, so nothing here is off-the-shelf stock. Whether you are a professional joiner or a DIY homeowner, tell us the shape you need and UK joinery mills quote against it - one replacement sash bottom rail for a Victorian bay, or a full set of hardwood window profiles for a new build.

We are strongest where a profile has to match something that already exists. Listed buildings, conservation areas and period properties - Georgian, Regency, Victorian, Edwardian and Arts and Crafts - use sections no merchant carries. We copy them from a sample, a photograph or a drawing. Any wood, any profile.

Window and door sections we can match

  • Sash window parts - stiles, heads, top rails, bottom rails, mid-rails, meeting rails and sash horns, for box sash and spring sash windows.
  • Box sash frame parts - pulley stiles, inner and outer linings, staff bead and parting bead.
  • Casement window sections - frame heads and jambs, mullions, transoms, casement stiles and rails.
  • Glazing bars - plain, ovolo and lambs tongue bars, and astragal bars for Georgian bar windows, cut to your sight line and glazing rebate.
  • Door linings, casings and frames - internal oak door linings and other hardwood linings, external timber door frames, jambs and heads.
  • Weatherboards, door bottoms and drip moulds, plus cover moulds and glazing beads to suit.

Choose the species to suit the job. European oak, sapele and iroko are the usual choices outside, for durability and appearance. For internal work such as door linings and beads, walnut, maple, ash and beech are excellent, and other species can be quoted on request. Solid timber only - we do not supply MDF, PVCu, plastic or foil-wrapped sections.

Pick the profile below that is closest to yours and add your sizes, or send your own section. One enquiry goes to several UK suppliers and you compare the quotes that come back.

Window and Door Components: Made to Match Timber Sections for Joinery and Restoration

Our timber window and door components are made for the manufacture and repair of wooden windows and doors. They are cut to order, so the section you receive is the section you specified rather than the nearest thing a merchant happened to stock.

The parts of a wooden window, and what they are called

Using the right name saves a lot of back and forth when you order.

How to match an existing profile

  • Send a sample. A 100mm offcut is the most accurate thing you can give us, and a short piece cut from an already rotten section still carries the profile.
  • Or photograph the end grain square on, with a steel rule or tape measure in the shot so the scale can be read off the picture.
  • Or send a drawing. A full size section drawing or a dimensioned sketch both work.
  • Measure overall width and thickness of the section, then the depth and width of every rebate - glazing rebate, weather rebate, drainage groove and any upstand.
  • Note the sight line, the visible face width once the section is fitted. On a period window the sight line is what the eye actually reads, and it is what a conservation officer looks at.
  • Say what it is for - internal or external, painted or clear finished, single glazed or double glazed. A glazing rebate sized for a sealed unit is considerably deeper than one for 4mm glass.
  • Give lengths and quantities, and allow a little extra for machining and waste.

Heritage and conservation work

On a listed building or in a conservation area the profile is usually the whole point of the consent. A stock section with the wrong sight line or a missing horn will be spotted. Because every component here is made to order we can copy the existing section rather than substitute the closest standard profile, so keep an original piece back as evidence and take photographs before anything is stripped out. If your consent specifies a species or a moisture content, put it in the enquiry and the quotes will reflect it.

How to source it, and how the quotes work

  • Select the profile above that is closest to yours, or send us your own sample, photograph or drawing.
  • Add the timber species, the sizes and the quantity. Our profile wizard walks you through the custom options.
  • Your one enquiry goes out to UK timber suppliers and joinery mills who work in that species.
  • You compare the quotes that come back and deal direct with the supplier you choose.

Everything is machined to order in solid timber. We do not supply MDF, PVCu, plastic or foil-wrapped sections, and we do not sell from stock. For other matched sections see beading, panel mould and made to match mouldings.
