A note from the provider: This very special fish is a surfable work of art. The bottom deck of this board is made of more than 1400, laser-cut "fish scales" created from spruce, Honduras mahogany, and flame maple offcuts from Santa Cruz Guitar Company, quilted maple from Meier Brothers Furniture, and bay laurel floorboards made in 1853 for the cooperage (where barrels were made) at the old Cowell Lime Works which is located on what is now the campus of the University of California, Santa Cruz. Several of the fish scales shimmer with real silver leaf overlay. The top deck includes redwood from John Steinbeck's first house in Pacific Grove, California, Doug fir and redwood from the original Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk along with spruce and Indian rosewood offcuts from Santa Cruz Guitar Company. Both sides are pinstriped by hand with black and chrome paint. The glassed-on twin fins are made fiddleback redwood salvaged from the Santa Cruz Mountains. The rails are made of cork, which is sustainable, more resistant to dings, and easier to repair. There are two sheets of Aerialite 4-ounce fiberglass on top and one on bottom. The epoxy is Entropy Resins bio-resin which is up to 40% tree sap and is very strong and light. As with all Ventana Surfboards, the interior is glassed and sealed, as well. This board is hollow, lightweight and will ride as great as it looks. Given the uniqueness of each side, it's two art pieces in one and can be flipped to highlight either side. Made in Santa Cruz, California by master artisan Martijn Stiphout. Includes an aluminium, museum-quality 5"x7" display sign and a handmade bag by Sagebrush Board Bags created using coffee bean sacks and unique, remnant fabrics.
