Every beading profile on Wooduchoose is made to order - never off-the-shelf stock. Tell us the profile you need and we connect you with UK timber suppliers who make it to match, whatever the shape or species.

Beading covers a wide family of small timber mouldings: glazing bead and window bead for holding glass into a sash or casement, staff bead and parting bead for traditional sliding sash windows, plus quadrant, scotia, half round and D-mould profiles for skirting, panelling and cover trims.

Because every piece is made to match, we are a genuine source for heritage restoration and listed building work, where an exact replica profile is needed rather than a standard stock shape. Choose your species and get a quote from a UK supplier.

About Beading made to order

Beading is the general name for small decorative and functional timber mouldings used to finish an edge, hold glass in place, or bridge a gap between two surfaces. Every profile on Wooduchoose is made to order, so there is no fixed size or stock range - you tell us the shape and species, and we connect you with a UK timber supplier who makes it.

The most requested profile is glazing bead (also called window bead or putty bead), which holds a pane of glass into a window or door frame. For traditional sliding sash windows we also supply staff bead and parting bead - the two small mouldings that hold the sash boxes together and let the sashes slide. These are a genuine specialist request for heritage restoration and listed building work, where the original profile has to be replicated exactly rather than replaced with a modern stock shape.

Beyond glazing and sash work, our range covers quadrant, scotia and half round beading for finishing the join between skirting and flooring or lining a panel edge, cover bead, D-mould and edge trim for panelling and cabinet work, and astragal mouldings for glazing bars on period joinery. Bolection and other complex profile beads are also made to order for period and specialist projects.

Sizes are not fixed either. Beading typically runs from a few millimetres up to around 25mm across, but because every piece is made to order rather than pulled from a stock rail, a UK supplier can plane it to the exact thickness and width your window, door or skirting detail needs. This matters most on older properties, where original mouldings are rarely a standard modern size.

Because everything is made to match, any species is possible - oak, walnut and other hardwoods for a period-accurate finish, or softwood and pine for a painted or budget project. Send us a sample, drawing or photo of the profile you need replicating and we will match it, then put you in touch with a UK supplier for a quote.
