How to measure Wood Mouldings

How to buy made to measure wood profiles?

If you need to match a timber profile or moulding you have a few options on how to source this. But first you need to determine exactly what you need by measuring the profile.

We have a unique tool that, not only, helps guide through to buying a bespoke or custom wooden profile but even gives you guide pricing on the way.

There are three key measurements needed for a wooden profile to enable a manufacture to price, match and produce your product.

The overall width/height, the thickness, and the size/detail of the shaped or moulded part of the section.

Once you've measured the moulded or shaped part of your profile, you'll be given several choices – see image.

Wood profile styles

A is the, is a moulded section that is less than 50 millimetres (approx. 2 inches).

Here's some examples of what an A type profile might look like. It could be a skirting board, a coving, a picture rail, anything with a mould less than 50 millimetres are not too complex.

The next choice is B. This would be a profile bigger than 50 millimetres, but less than 60 millimetres.

And again, not too complicated a profile. This, too, can be any type of moulding, as long as it's 51mm to 60mm.

C is the next choice. Now, this is slightly bigger, 61 to 80mm, and again, some examples.

D is if your moulded section is either large or very detailed and intricate.

So it could be a smaller mould, but with lots of detail to it.

Multi-faced profiles

We then get to profiles with more than one face/surface that has detailing. See image:

Wood profile multifaced styles

F1, if your profile is relatively simple, but there is more than one face that has detail. You'll see from these examples that F one has multiple faces, but they can be several different profiles.

Again, relatively simple. Just display a groove, chamfer, or maybe a small round.

F2, if your choice of profile has multiple faces that have been shaped, but maybe more intricate than F1. See examples. It could be a handrail, a window section, some decking, anything with multiple faces that have been shaped.

The next step is to choose your wood. We have several features to help you make the best choice for the profile you're looking for. Filters like usage or best wood based on your desired finish.

Then we'll need to know how much you need. This could be by overall quantity or individual length requirements.

Then comes a cool bit - based on the information you've provided. We'll give you an, instant, guide price on screen.

Then you'll be able to upload all the details of your product and profile with some images, drawings, and anything that will help manufacturers understand exactly what you're looking for.

Here's some examples of some that have been sent in before, and these all work fine. It does not  have to be anything too complicated. If all the information is provided.

This is then sent to all the supplies that can help you with your specific product and needs. Within no time at all, you'll start receiving fixed price quotations to your inbox.

You may receive several quotations for your product. You can choose the best option to suit you and buy securely online.
